Low Cost

The whole operation is basically low cost once the equipment setup is established. It is just a matter of feeding the fish. Everything else is covered.

Establishment cost is variable but required are the containers and mediom for the plants to grow in. Then a small pump to recirculate the water.

A large container is required for the fish and and suitable containers for the plants. Of course this site is a directory site which gives lists of suppliers and product, so the different ranges of containers and other equipment are wide and varied. One of the popular configurations allows almost completely vertical container structures for the plants. There are a number of companies with basic kit structures which contain everything needed to get started.

Considering the prices of fresh produce in the stores it is possible for the enthusiastic aquaculture follower to provide enough fresh produce for a small to medium family each year and this value would normally be in the thousands of dollars per year.
